Sparkling Rain Water has arrived!
Living a more eco-friendly lifestyle means that you are actively taking steps to better our planet. There are a ton of ways to treat the Earth better, from turning off your lights when leaving a room to reducing your use of disposable plastics. When you make the switch from plastic water bottles to an eco-friendly alternative, this small action makes a big impact on our planet.
Many people still use plastic bottled water because there haven’t been many other alternatives, until now. There are certain, high-end water companies that package sustainable water by utilizing metal bottles rather than plastic. Moving away from plastic bottles is a smart move, for yourself and for the environment.
Each year, Americans use roughly 35 billion plastic water bottles, which end up in the landfills and oceans. Many people are aware of this huge problem and are switching from traditional bottled water to a new innovation in the drink world - bottled water that is packaged in reusable metal bottles rather than in plastic.
One of the things many people are concerned about is Bisphenol A (BPA) seeping out of the plastic and into the water. BPA is an endocrine disruptor, which mimics how estrogen affects the body. BPA may cause obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and more. Many countries have now banned BPA, especially in products for children.
With 35 billion more plastic bottles being added to the landfills and oceans each year from just the United States comes quite the carbon footprint. Even with recycling, plastic bottles are polluting our planet. Plastic breaks down so slowly, that each bottle could easily still be around in 1,000 years.
Many people want to buy a brand of bottled water that they know is sourced ethically, sustainably, and creates minimal impact on the environment. This can be challenging when there are so many brands of water that all seem to be owned by the same few giant companies. Unfortunately, most giant companies don’t utilize sustainable practices.
Many of the leading corporate entities that produce bottled water operate factories that simply filter or purify common municipal water. These can contain any number of contaminants or toxins that make it through the standard water treatment for municipal drinking water. Not only are there toxins and chemicals that make it through their filtration process, but they also add fluoridation chemicals and other agents to help treat and sanitize the water to make it potable for your home.
Other companies use natural spring or well water from their own private property, but this has its negative effects on the local water table and the aquifer that it may be a part of. When a large factory is pulling thousands of gallons per hour out of the ground, it is not always so easily replaced. This can be particularly devastating when their effect on the water table begins to harm local wildlife by drying up streams, ponds, or creeks. Large companies that pull water from the Earth simply cannot operate without drastic effects on the local and regional environment.
The most sustainable and ethically upright way to source the water for bottling is directly from the clouds. Rainwater harvesting allows the surrounding environment to still receive its hydration, the local water table is not affected, and with a two-acre harvesting facility, nearly 500,000 bottles of water can be filled with just an inch of consistent rainfall. This means no dried-up springs or creeks, no deep wells to dig, and no municipal water with unknown quantities and types of toxins.
Plastic is one of the most devastating substances used for packaging in the modern world. It is so common, that by 2050 it is estimated that there will be one plastic bottle on the planet for every single fish. Plastic bottles are so common in fact, that more than one million are produced every single minute of the day. This translates to approximately 500 billion plastic water bottles alone, not even taking into consideration all of the other plastic that gets deposited into the environment and the ocean.
Even with how many bottles are produced, less than ten percent are ever recycled, and so more than 90% are thrown away and make it to the next stop. From here plastic is dumped into the ocean at the rate of more than 8 million tons annually, creating new problems like the Pacific Garbage Patch, a mass of tangled plastic garbage that is now twice the area of the state of Texas.
To avoid the easy out of using plastic for packaging, the most sustainable bottled water will be packaged in a material that is easily reused and recycled, like aluminum. Aluminum is so highly reusable, that approximately 75% of all aluminum gets recycled, and those stats haven't changed much for more than a hundred years. The timeline of an aluminum bottle going from the recycling bin to a new bottle is often only about 60 days. In addition to that, they can also simply be washed out and refilled in order to be reused.
The best sustainable bottled water in the world is going to be simple. There’s no need to complicate it. It is harvested directly from the source so that a large portion of environmental impact and carbon footprint can be reduced or eliminated. Once the pure rainwater has been collected, it is processed with leading purification and sterilization technology.
After your water has been purified, it is packaged in one of the most sustainable packages currently available, aluminum. There’s no reason to use irresponsible plastic bottles when your pure rainwater can be delivered to you in a safe, non-toxic, and 100% recyclable and reusable aluminum bottle.
If you are ready to make the switch to a more sustainable lifestyle, the first thing you should do is to start using reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones. One of the best ways to do this is to use aluminum water bottles, as previously mentioned. On top of that, drinking rainwater is one of the most sustainable practices you can do. Combining both aluminum water bottles and rainwater, you are well on your way to greatly reducing your carbon footprint on the planet.
